Professor R Rajaraman is professor emeritus of Physics at the School of Physical Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University. He is an internationally renowned nuclear physicist who has been actively studying, writing and lecturing in India and abroad on nuclear policy issues during his long and distinguished career. He has served on several expert bodies and is a founding member and past co-chair of the International Panel on Fissile Materials and a member of the Asia Pacific Leadership Network.
He edited and published a book on the proceedings of a symposium he organized under the auspices of the Indian National Science Academy on India’s Nuclear Energy Programme, involving prominent opponents and apex officials of the Department of Atomic Energy—the first book to present both sides of the debate.
His book, Critical Mass, on India’s Nuclear and Strategic Programme discusses all the major issues connected to this field including the Indo-US Nuclear deal, the arguments for and against nuclear parity, and the No First Use doctrine.
