Vineet Thakur is an Assistant Professor at the Institute for History, Leiden University, the Netherlands. Previously, he has taught in India, South Africa and the United Kingdom, and has held fellowships at Cambridge University (UK), Rhodes University (South Africa), the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (The Netherlands), and Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (South Africa).

He is a diplomatic historian with a focus on South Asia and Southern Africa. He has published six books. His 2020 book, South Africa, Race and the Making of International Relations (authored with Peter Vale) won the Francesco Guicciardini Prize for the best book in Historical International Relations.

His next book, Bandung 1955: A Global History, a multi-archival history of the conference widely considered to have birthed the idea of the ‘Third World’, is represented by A Suitable Agency.
